The real Junjin, a.k.a. Park Choong Jae.

As I was re-watching this episode, this song kept playing in my head:

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You’ll get by…

– Smile (Michael Jackson)

Apart from being one of six members of legendary KPop group Shinhwa, Junjin is widely known for his wit and humor not just among his peers but also to the general public. He effortlessly displays in all his TV appearances, which explains why his presence in various variety shows has been very much in demand, until now.

But as Junjin explains to Kang Ho Dong in GF, there’s a lot more to him than what people readily see. Behind those jokes and laughs is a lonely boy who grew up with no parents to watch over him and guide him, with only his grandmother to raise him, with his birth mother who left him as soon as he came into this world, and so on. No wonder he has that childlike quality about him until now; no wonder he still looks lost and listless at times. Even though he’s got a caring stepmother right now and his dad has more time for him now, the scars of his childhood still remain clearly etched in his memory (more so since Junjin has a very good memory). It would seem like he ha everything — looks, career, sense of humor — but behind all that, a long-time fan like myself can see his weakness and vulnerability. My heart just breaks for him over and over. T___T

I can go on and on about this, but for now all I can say is that I am very grateful that he’s part of Shinhwa, and that he found five amazing men — nay, brothers — who he can consider as family. I am glad that he can count on them.

Today’s random thoughts…

Sometimes, I think that if Junjin didn’t become part of Shinhwa, he would have made an amazing athlete. He has an innate competitiveness and athleticism that just shines through in every show he is in. He may not be the sharpest guy of the bunch in terms of textbook knowledge, but when it comes to sports and games, you can really tell that he thinks. He has a plan, a strategy. He knows his strengths and weaknesses and harnesses both of them to his advantage. He zones out, turns into a machine and has no other focus but to win; to achieve the goal. He’s very exacting when it comes to those things.

Or, since he has a passion for dancing (and is really, REALLY good at it, heehee), he would have made an awesome professional breakdancer. He did mention before that had things gone differently for him, he probably would have flown to the US, studied and learned English and danced for a living.

Sometimes I wonder if fame contributed significantly to the development of his panic disorder and extreme paranoia. Specifically fame associated with being a KPop idol, and the pressures Shinhwa went through as trainees under the helm of SM Entertainment.

It makes me sad that all the evils Jinnie has confronted (and is probably still confronting now) led to him almost alienating himself from everybody, especially from the other Shinhwa members. I’m just relieved that it’s Shinhwa we’re talking about here, and I am grateful to the other members, especially to Eric, for reaching out to Jinnie and being there for him in spite of everything. If it were anybody else, Jinnie would probably be alone by now.

Reminiscing SBS “Love Letter” with Shinhwa

April 16, 2012 4 comments

Thought of re-watching Season 1 of SBS “Love Letter” (2004) featuring Shinhwa and ShinChung (Shin Jung Hwan and Chun Myung Hoon). I’m on episode 2 (with Han Ga In as guest) and wow, after watching this video n number of times, It’s still very obvious to me how smitten Junjin was over Han Ga In. It’s written all over his face from the moment she came out of the van. I’m so thrilled that he got chosen by her as the “Perfect Man” for that episode <33

Fast forward 2012… still a Jinnie Lover ^^

Wow, it’s been a while since I posted anything on this blog. A lot of things have happened for the past years — Jinnie’s enlistment, me having a lovely baby boy who’s already 2 years old, quitting my job to be a mother, getting back into the workforce to earn a living… how time flies. Hehe. Admittedly, I took a hiatus from my Shinhwa/Junjin fangirling, but now that my six gorgeous men are back with a vengeance, I just can’t not write anything about them. So, judging from my random comeback into my blogging, KPop fandom, the content of this post is going to be pretty random, too. So, here goes…

  • I admit that I didn’t like Jinnie’s hairstyle for Shinhwa’s comeback that much at first, but after he got it colored a lighter shade of brown, I’m liking it a lot. With longish hair, I prefer Jinnie with lighter locks, makes his features softer and less sharp.
  • Even as a long-time SHCJ, I still found it extremely refreshing and pleasantly surprising to hear Shinhwa’s stories in their show appearances. In KBS ‘Win Win”, I really felt so much for Jinnie as he talked about his struggles with fame and his panic disorder. I know this is not a new thing, especially to his fans, but the extent of his struggles with it still shocks me sometimes. I also felt really sad to hear Eric say that among the members, it’s Jinnie who communicates with them the least, and that he acts weird lots of times, when during those times, he was dealing with a lot of personal problems and issues. It gives me further insight on why often gets misunderstood; it’s because he’s not the type to openly share his problems and feelings to anyone, not even to his own friends. Even right now, I can still see it in his eyes — the problems he’s still dealing with, feeling responsible for all of those problems (especially the seemingly neverending financial binds that his father, Charlie Park, gets himself into). Inasmuch as he would want to think of himself and his happiness and perhaps meet a nice girl to settle down and have a family with, he still can’t do that. Ohh Jinnie, I wish I could hug you right now.
  • In Shinhwa’a appearance in “Radio Star”, I felt really sad to hear Jinnie admit his shortcomings during his stint as a member of MBC’s “Infinite Challenge” — that he was not focused due to certain issues he was dealing with during that time. He still reaches out to his IC comrades, but right now he still hasn’t found the courage to actually contact PD Kim Tae Ho. Awww, Jinnie. I really, really hope you get everything together so you can work with that amazing team again. ^^
  • So far I’ve been successful in tuning out the haters of Shinhwa’s comeback, simply because nothing they have said thus far are even worth replying to, at least for me. I mean, cmon, attack them solely because of their age? Geez, I’d rather wash my little boy’s poop-covered butt.
  • I really, REALLY appreciate and admire Eric as Shinhwa’s leader. I mean, man, nobody even comes close. I salute him. To Eric, you truly are the leadernim.

Okay, I’ve run out of random thoughts, haha. But I’ll be back fosho!

PS. Like what someone on Tumblr said, “I never understood why anybody would dislike someone with a face like this” >>

This week’s episode of Infinite Challenge featured all members (excluding Yoo Jae Suk who ranked the highest in the shopping network episode) attending an all-girls’ university.  Each of them attended different classes and donned ridiculously tacky female clothes 😀
